We're excited to share that our MA in International Peacebuilding (MAP) students recently participated in a training session with the Connecticut Center for Nonviolence. Guided by Victoria Christgau, founder and executive director of the center, they learned about the six principles of non-violence and the history of the Kingian Non-Violence movement. It was a meaningful session rooted in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s philosophy of nonviolent social change. We love seeing our students engage with ideas that will shape their peacebuilding work around the globe.

Bilal Ansari, Co-Director of the MA in Chaplaincy at HIU, has written a moving piece for our blog about his time as a Muslim chaplain in a Christian chapel space. It's a story of small kindnesses, unexpected tension, and the faith that carried him through. The story will stay with you.

There is a difference between inter-religious encounter and inter-faith endurance, and I learned it in a chapel with a white steeple.

The HIU community mourns the passing of Dr. Barbara Brown Zikmund, 86, known affectionately to colleagues and friends as "BBZ." Dr. Zikmund was a trailblazer in theological circles, beginning as the first woman to teach on the faculty of Chicago Theological Seminary.

"Deena, Phoebe, and I finally touched down in Jakarta after 20 hours of travel. The stress and exhaustion from the hustle and bustle of the trip were diminished the moment we set foot in the Jakarta airport. Everything about this airport — from the beautiful gardens separating the terminals to the luscious plants and natural art throughout to the very prominent prayer room — are invitations to contemplation and reminders that the work of global peace-building often begins with finding peace within. Our time here will be very busy, but I am reminded of how important it is to find moments of quiet joy," President Sherry Turner said.
