A message from our President, Dr. Rich Lloyd:

Please be reminded of Dr. Laura Logan’s Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, August 29, at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvin H. French Memorial Chapel on campus with a reception immediately following at the Morrison-Reeves Science Center. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that individuals consider donating to the Dr. Laura Logan Sociology Scholarship fund (see comment below for link).

Dr. Logan passed away June 6. She was a beloved colleague and a friend to so many. She had a profound effect on the students she taught and we will remember and celebrate her dedication to student success and to her colleagues. You can read her full obituary here.

Dr. Beatrice Waterhouse will be joining us in the fall as a Visiting Assistant Professor in Sociology. She earned a PhD in Sociology and an MA in Latin American Studies at the University of California, San Diego. We are so excited to have her join us. Welcome Dr. Waterhouse!

Our hearts are broken at the passing of our beloved colleague Dr. Laura Logan. For 13 years, Dr. Logan provided an unwavering commitment to her students in and out of the classroom. Her high academic standards pushed students to move beyond their perceived limits and her commitment to equality moved everyone around her to be better versions of themselves. Her door was always open to others, as students and colleagues often sought out her wisdom, guidance, and humor in the ups and downs of life.

Dr. Logan was a 2016 recipient of the Vondrak Outstanding Advisor award and Invited Faculty Lecture in 2015 and 2022. She was an esteemed member of Sociologists for Women in Society, published in the areas of violence and victimization, and was a sought-out expert on street harassment.

The inaugural High School Psychology, Sociology, and Criminology Fair was a great success! We enjoyed hosting high school students and their parents/teachers for workshops with interactive activities, a campus tour, lunch, and an alumni/current students panel! Much gratitude to folks in Admissions and Marketing & Communication, along with our many HC student volunteers. We owe the biggest thanks to the HC Foundation for supporting this event through an Innovation Grant! 👏🏼 🧠 🌎 👏🏼
