School of Library and Information Science at Southern Miss

School of Library and Information Science at Southern Miss SLIS offers ALA-accredited online MLIS degree, Archival Certificate, Youth Services Certificate, LIS BS, and undergrad minor.

We serve the library and information professions in Mississippi, in other states and in some other countries by providing undergraduate and graduate programs of study for generalists and specialists alike. The University of Southern Mississippi School of Library and Information Science is the only American Library Association accredited program in Mississippi and is one of only 61 such programs at

56 institutions in the United States. Our graduates work in public, school, governmental, academic and corporate settings in technical services, archives, bibliographic instruction, information services and management. The information professions do indeed have a bright future. While professionals in the field may not always hold the title "librarian," they do share similar activities: evaluating, acquiring, organizing, preserving, creating, displaying, disseminating and otherwise managing information in all its various media. Our field has many facets and it would be our pleasure to discuss them with you. Please contact us if you have questions about the profession, its career options or our programs.

📚✨ STORYWALK® RETURNS TO THE POCKET ALLEY! ✨📚

One of our favorite mornings of the year is back!

Join us Saturday, May 23 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon for the 6th annual StoryWalk® at the Hattiesburg Pocket Museum! Families will stroll down the Alley as the pages of the beloved children’s book Where’s My Teddy? by Jez Alborough come to life one page at a time.

This joyful event mixes reading, walking, imagination, and a little Pocket Alley magic into one very special morning.

đź“– The first 250 children will receive a FREE brand-new book to take home

📚 Activities from local library partners

🛝 Games will be out in the Alley for the kids.

🚶 Perfect for little readers, curious wanderers, and families looking for some FREE Saturday fun

StoryWalk® is made possible through a wonderful community partnership with The University of Southern Mississippi School of Library and Information Science, The Library of Hattiesburg, Petal & Forrest County, and Oak Grove Public Library.

There’s just something magical about a child walking through the Alley, turning pages, and leaving with a story of their very own. ❤️
