How the Venetians Stole Christmas and Other Tales! 🎄

A massive thank you to everyone who joined us last night for an unforgettable evening with Dr. Mark Nicovich!

Dr. Nicovich delivered a fascinating deep dive into the medieval Christian imagination, exploring the profound religious and socio-political importance of relics. The highlight of the night? Unpacking the riveting history behind the "holy theft" of the bones of St. Nicholas of Myra—the legendary figure we know today as Santa Claus!

You can watch his full presentation here: https://youtu.be/lRRkGSBnMtA?si=e6dMDzXfBPwYUr-x

We were thrilled by the wonderful turnout and the lively, thought-provoking Q&A session that followed.

What an incredible evening last week! 🩺✝️

A huge thank you to Dr. Italo Subbarrao for his phenomenal presentation, By His Stripes: A Medical Examination of the Suffering and Passion of the Christ. Dr. Subbarrao walked us through fascinating forensic evidence of crucifixion wounds, explored the Sudarium of Oviedo and its connection to the Shroud of Turin, and offered a compelling medical hypothesis for Christ's death beyond asphyxiation: Takotsubo Syndrome (broken heart syndrome).

If you missed it or want to keep the momentum going, join us this Thursday at 5:30 PM in the Legacy Room (located beside Wilkes Dining Hall) for Dr. Mark Nicovich's upcoming presentation on the power of relics in the medieval Christian imagination! You won't want to miss it.
