Congratulations to the spring 2026 graduates of the Southern Miss marriage and family therapy master's program on achieving a 100% pass rate on the national licensure exam!

Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education, the program emphasizes hands-on clinical training, including 300 hours of direct therapy services.

The Southern Miss Center for Family Therapy, the University's on-campus clinic, offers counseling services for individuals, families, and couples while providing students in the program with valuable clinical experience. These graduates are now ready to make an impact in their communities as practicing clinicians.

Southern Miss, in partnership with Forrest Health, has launched the Forrest Health Scholars Program to expand hands-on clinical training for students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Beginning this fall, selected nursing students will complete their required clinical training in a Dedicated Education Unit at Forrest General Hospital. Working alongside nurse preceptors, students will gain real-world experience in fast-paced environments, such as the Emergency Room and the Intensive Care Unit.

Through this partnership with Forrest Health, the program will help prepare the next generation of healthcare leaders right here in Hattiesburg.

Congratulations to Dr. Anthony Griffin, a postdoctoral researcher in the Southern Miss School of Polymer Science and Engineering, on being selected for the 2026 Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) Future Leaders program.

Dr. Griffin is among 31 early-career scientists worldwide chosen for this year's program, which selects fewer than 4% of applicants annually. The program recognizes emerging scientists conducting impactful research across a range of disciplines, including materials science, synthetic biology, and cheminformatics.

As a member of the Qiang Research Group at Southern Miss, Dr. Griffin focuses his work on finding innovative ways to reuse everyday plastics and other materials by turning them into products that support energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. Through the CAS program, he will strengthen his leadership and communication skills, build industry connections, and present his research this fall in Chicago.

In a highly competitive national process involving more than 4,000 psychology students seeking pre-doctoral internships, 100% of Southern Miss applicants were successfully matched!

This achievement reflects the strong academic and clinical foundation built at Southern Miss, supported by faculty mentorship and hands-on training through the Center for Behavioral Health, the University's on-campus training clinic.

These internships represent the final stage of doctoral training and place students in settings such as Veterans Affairs facilities, counseling centers, public school districts, community mental health centers, and private practices.
