Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Christina B. Liverett
With over 20 years of K-12 classroom and leadership experience, Dr. Liverett brings a wealth of practical expertise and a deep commitment to student success to the College of Education.
Before transitioning into higher education, Dr. Liverett served in Mississippi public schools for over 20 years. She taught grades 3-6 in Hattiesburg Public Schools, working with diverse learners through inclusion classrooms and gifted education support programs. She later joined Laurel School District, where she taught sixth grade and gifted education students in grades 2-6.
During her tenure in Laurel, Dr. Liverett also served as the district's Gifted Coordinator, designing enriched and differentiated curriculum pathways for gifted and twice-exceptional students. Her innovative work helped create learning environments where advanced learners could thrive academically, creatively, and socially.
Dr. Liverett's passion for supporting neurodivergent learners extends beyond the classroom. She has presented at state and regional conferences on topics including metacognition, twice-exceptional learners, and gifted education. Today, she continues that work as Coordinator of Gifted Education and Director of the Center for Creative Scholars at William Carey University, where she develops hands-on interdisciplinary learning experiences for gifted and twice-exceptional students.
Holding degrees in Elementary Education, Gifted Education, Higher Education, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration, Dr. Liverett exemplifies the connection between K-12 practice and higher education leadership. Her career reflects a steadfast dedication to empowering students, supporting educators, and advancing opportunities for all learners.
