A major milestone for Southern Miss and the future of health care education in Mississippi!

The University of Southern Mississippi’s Physician Assistant Studies MSM Program has received Accreditation-Provisional status from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).

The designation makes Southern Miss home to the third accredited physician assistant program in Mississippi as the program prepares to welcome its inaugural cohort in January 2027.

The Class of 2029 will include 30 students, marking an exciting new chapter for the College of Nursing and Health Professions and the continued expansion of health care education at Southern Miss.

Students in Southern Miss Recreational Therapy gain practical experience using purposeful activities to help individuals improve independence, function, confidence, and quality of life.

Our students can graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Recreational Therapy and become licensed clinicians, or use the program as a strong pathway to an Occupational Therapy graduate program. Our graduates currently have a 100% acceptance rate into OT school!

Whether entering the workforce or continuing on to graduate school, USM Recreational Therapy prepares students for a rewarding career helping others live fuller, more independent lives.
