BACHELOR OF ARTS IN PARALEGAL STUDIES

The growing demand for legal services has placed great stress on attorneys to provide efficient and effective legal assistance. Paralegals--who may not provide legal services directly to the public, except as permitted by law--assist attorneys in meeting this demand and aid in delivering legal services more efficiently and economically. As the paralegal field continues to grow, the demand for paralegals remains high. Career opportunities for paralegals exist in private law firms, government offices, and businesses such as banks, corporations, and insurance companies. Law libraries, paralegal education, and freelance paralegal work provide additional career opportunities for paralegals.

: Professor Ward Conville! 💼🌟

We want to take a moment to express our appreciation for (and shower with praise) our Mock Trial adjunct instructor, Professor Conville. Team 1 of the Sacred Heart Mock Trial Team achieved the title of Statewide Champions of the Bar's Mississippi High School Mock Trial Competition as well as placed 13th in the NATION (!!!) at the National High School Mock Trial Championship. This great achievement could not have been done without Professor Conville and his co-coaches' leadership and support. ⚖🇺🇸

While leading Sacred Heart's team to great victories, Professor Conville has been pouring into the creation of Southern Miss's inaugural Mock Trial Team and teaching the Mock Trial class this past Spring.

For the last week of instruction, our Capstone students participated in a new program, the Etiquette Dinner! 🍽🍝

Our students were led by Mrs. Linda Montgomery, an etiquette instructor who has over 50 years of experience. Through lessons on manners across multiple meal formats, proper introductions to colleagues, and how place settings work, our students are prepared to enter the professional world. ⚖💼

On Monday, our LGL 310 Mock Trial class competed as four distinct teams in two rounds, trying the case of the State of Midlands v. Martin, the 2025-2026 collegiate case.

Over the two hours, each team mastered examinations and cross-examinations, entered exhibits, and honed the art of objection. One round resulted in a Not Guilty verdict, and the other ended in a hung jury. Our students exemplified courtroom excellence and dedication to the case. 🌟

We are so proud of all our students in LGL 310 this semester! We are also incredibly grateful to adjunct professor Ward Conville for dedicating his time to these students and for serving as the judge for both rounds.
