FHSU Political Science Program

FHSU Political Science Program FHSU Political Science FB Page: a great place to keep up with our students, faculty and alums! No offensive or derogatory material is allowed on the page.

The Fort Hays State University Department of Political Science page serves as a place to follow our students, faculty and alums, keep up on course schedules and extracurricular activities, learn about internship and job opportunities, and stay on top of political and public policy resources. To maintain an environment on the page where all are welcome and comfortable with participation, the Department has implemented the following social media policy regarding posts on the page and all other social media sites. Note that this policy does not supersede any other university policies that apply to social media. If your use of social media would violate FHSU policy in any medium, it will also violate them in an online community. To maintain civil active participation, the Department has implemented the following policy regarding posts for our Facebook and other social media pages. Note that this policy does not supersede any other university policies that apply to social media—if your use violates FHSU policy, it violates our online policy as well. The FHSU Department of Political Science page serves as a communication platform between the Department, students, faculty, alumni, and the extended FHSU community. The page is primarily informational in nature and is not intended for partisan or personal posts. Any posts deemed partisan, derogatory, offensive, or in another way in violation of the policy will be removed by the administrative assistant or the chair of the department, who manage the page. Should a violation occur, a reminder of the policy will be sent and the person who posted the offending content may be asked to refrain from future violations. Multiple violations may result in the poster’s loss of access to the page and a report to Facebook for inappropriate use of the site.

The FHSU Model United Nations team is going to New York! A representative from Global Model United Nations will be speaking to all prospective FHSU students on Wednesday, October 7th, in Rarick Hall 375 from 1:30 pm to 2:20 pm.

The representative will be delivering a presentation tailored to FHSU and will be fielding student questions. The FHSU Model U.N. team will participate in the Global Model United Nations in New York City for the first time. Model United Nations is a powerful learning experience that prepares students for consensus-building, negotiation, team-based collaboration, public speaking, and persuasive evidence-based writing. All interested students are encouraged to attend this, the first in a series of recruitment sessions. Join the team, learn, and have fun!

We had a wonderful weekend celebrating our two FHSU Alumni Award recipients, Brenda Meder ’80, ’87 (Communication Studies) and Chelsey Ladd ’08, ’08 (Political Science and Organizational Leadership)! This year, Chelsey was recognized with the Nita Landrum Award, while Brenda was honored with the Distinguished Service Award.

From Chelsey's nearly 18 years of public service alongside Senator Jerry Moran and her active leadership at FHSU, to Brenda's decades of championing our local arts, community theater, and the Hays Arts Council —we are beyond honored to have such dedicated alumni and leaders with us.

Help us give another round of applause to Brenda and Chelsey!

Special thanks to FHSU Alumni Award recipient Chelsey Ladd for visiting with our students today!

Chelsey, a dual FHSU graduate in political science and organizational leadership, currently serves as Director of Constituent Services for U.S. Senator Jerry Moran and as president of the Bricks in Downtown Hays. Recognized with the Nita M. Landrum Award for her exceptional volunteer service and dedication to FHSU, she shared invaluable insights on servant leadership and making an impact both professionally and in everyday life.

Having alumni share their expertise, career journeys, and advice is always a highlight for our program! If you'd like to connect with Chelsey, stop by Tebo Library tomorrow morning for a meet-and-greet event from 9:30 AM-11:00 AM!

From heated debates to strategic resolution writing, students in Dr. Christopher Olds' Model United Nations course put their diplomacy skills to the test during Friday's simulation practice.

With the American Model United Nations conference just a few months away, these delegates are putting in the work to represent FHSU with excellence. We can’t wait to see their classroom preparation turn into big results at the national conference!

Happy Constitution Day! Earlier this week, Fort Hays State University and local students packed the Ellis County Courthouse for a special reading of the United States Constitution. It was an inspiring reminder of the rights, freedoms, and history that shape our everyday lives as Americans.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to honor this foundational piece of democracy!
