FHSU’s W.R. and Yvonne Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship awarded 309 student scholarships, exceeding $388,000, to business and entrepreneurship students for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Robbins Ambassadors Caden Becker and Aubrey Gill spoke about their support as undergraduate students at FHSU and the impact that support has had on their educational experience.

“The Robbins College has given me so many opportunities to grow both inside and outside the classroom,” said Gill, a senior majoring in marketing. “The support and encouragement of the faculty and staff of the Robbins College have played a huge role. I’m also grateful for the generosity of the donors and alumni who make scholarships like these possible.”

A message from President Mason regarding the Sternberg Museum of Natural History:

I need to share a difficult decision with you, and I want to be transparent about how we arrived here, what it means, and who ultimately holds the power to change the path we are on.

Heart of a Tiger
By President Tisa Mason

Susan Relaford is the kind of person you want to hug. She has a big personality, a warm heart, and a word of encouragement ready for anyone who needs one.

For 11 years, Susan worked as a custodian here at Fort Hays State. If you played volleyball or basketball in our coliseum, you probably knew her. If you took classes on the Education floor of Rarick Hall, you probably knew her, too.

But Susan had a dream sitting on the back burner. About 20 years ago, she worked as a pharmacy technician. She loved it. She thought about going back to school to make it official. Then life got busy, and hard.

Turning 50 gave Susan a new kind of courage. She looked around and realized the time to chase her dream was now, not someday. So, she signed up for classes to become a certified pharmacy technician.

That decision changed everything. Susan found out that one of the benefits of working for Fort Hays State is free tuition for employees. And thanks to FHSU’s affiliation with Fort Hays Tech | North Central, that free tuition is extended to that school as well as to Fort Hays Tech | Northwest. So, at 50 years old, while still working full days as a custodian, she enrolled in classes at Fort Hays Tech | North Central.

Susan made it. Her hard work paid off, and she earned her certification as a pharmacy technician. Today, she helps people get the medicine they need to feel better. It is a new job, but the heart behind it is the same. Susan is still spreading her love, just in a different way.

“Never give up. Keep trying. If I could say one thing to people, that’s what I would say. I was going to give up, but I decided to do it, and proved to myself and others that I could do it.”
