The Hofstra University Dutchmen a cappella group was conceived in 2010 and founded in 2011 when three students came together and decided that Hofstra University needed an all-male a cappella group. In only the short time the group has existed, the Executive Board that runs the organization has made it their personal mission to do everything in their power to advance the goals of the group, while a
lso provide new opportunities for both the performers and prospective new members. Current performers are consistently encouraged to enhance their own musical knowledge through arranging new songs they'd like the group to cover, taking on positions of leadership to be more involved, and work collaboratively with other members on new projects, such as establishing social media websites, acquiring new performance opportunities, and networking with other college acapella groups. With members who have academic backgrounds in Computer Science, English, Political Science, Vocal Performance and Film/TV, the group plays to its diverse strengths, as each individual member can bring something new to the table. Already, an accumulation of over a dozen songs has been built up in the Dutchmen repertoire, thanks to the efforts of our members and their advancing skills in arranging choral music. In the past year, Dutchmen members have travelled with other acapella groups across the region, and performed in both New Paltz and Albany at the Northeastern Acapella Invitationals.
