On the weekend of October 18–19, 2025, Nevada State University Associate Professor, Dr. Sheri Bayley, and graduate student, Joey Lamberti, attended a camp for children who stutter in California , where they had valuable opportunities to connect with the campers, participating in therapy sessions centered on acceptance strategies and positive affirmations. ✨👏

For Joey, who is an adult that stutters, being part of this experience was particularly meaningful, as stuttering camps would have been life-changing if they were accessible during his childhood. Overall, it was an incredibly rewarding and memorable experience, and they encourage parents of children who stutter to connect with Camp Words Unspoken to participate in the next California camp in 2026. ⛺

October is AAC Awareness Month — a time to celebrate communication in all its forms! 👏

We’re grateful for our amazing AAC community partners who help break down barriers, build connections, share with our students, and amplify every voice. Together, we’re creating spaces where everyone can be heard. 🌟

Pictured are Keith Jackson from Control Bionics and Marisela Quintero from Tobii Dynavox speaking to our graduate students and providing demonstrations and explanations of different devices.

That's a wrap on the summer semester for our full-time graduate cohort! 🙌🏼

Communication goes beyond words; it’s how we form connections, share our thoughts, and express who we are.

For many individuals with complex communication needs, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) offers a powerful way to engage with the world. AAC is a pathway to connection, confidence, and independence. Rather than replacing speech, it supports and enhances communication. It empowers individuals to express their wants and needs, build meaningful relationships, participate in learning and daily routines, and perhaps most importantly, feel seen, heard, and understood.

At Nevada State University, we equip our students with a wide range of tools and experiences to prepare them for real-world clinical practice. From low-tech communication boards to our advanced eye gaze system, our AAC lab provides hands-on training that helps future clinicians become confident and competent in supporting every voice.

If you're interested in learning more, consider speaking with one of our professors and checking out the AAC lab to explore the tools and technology firsthand.

✨️ Student Worker Spotlight ✨️ Our SLP program has two undergraduate student workers. Say hello to Allie Allen-Fogle!

Allie is an undergraduate Secondary Education and History double major. 📚 She is currently in her second year of college, and has been working at the Nevada State Speech-Language Clinic for the last two years. Even though Allie is not an SLP major, she still finds that working at the clinic has been edifying, and informative! 🙌🏼

She shared that she has learned things she never thought she would while working here, and has even stated that it will help her in her future endeavors as a future educator. 👩‍🏫 Much like in classes she has taken, she now knows that it is important to advocate and individualize learning for those who may have language and speech differences. 🗣 Allie not only aids clients and graduate students, but also lends a hand to anyone who drops by the clinic in need of assistance. Working as a student worker has deepened Allie's insight to the people around her. Not only has she grown and learned from working with the SLP department, but she also met her best friend here. The clinic brought Riana into Allie's life, and now you can hardly imagine one without the other! ✨

Allie loves hiking and Pilates in her free time, and her favorite musical is Hamilton. ⛰️🧘‍♀️🎶 Allie aspires to continue her education after getting her bachelor's degree, to pursue a Master of Arts in Teaching, and to later become a high school history teacher. 🎓

✨️Student Worker Spotlight✨️ Our SLP program has two undergraduate student workers. Up first is Riana Reyes!

Riana is a fourth year undergraduate student pursuing her degree in speech-language pathology. Since August of 2023, she has been working alongside fellow student worker Allie at the Nevada State Speech-Language Clinic. Her experience at the clinic has deepened her passion for the field of speech-language pathology, supporting her commitment to making a meaningful impact in the lives of others. 🙌🏼 In her role, Riana assists with clients, supports graduate students, and collaborates with professors, helping both clinic and program operations.👏🏾 Through her time at the clinic, she has developed valuable connections and gained hands-on experience in areas that reflect her clinical interests, including autism, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and stuttering. 🗣

On campus, Riana is active in our NSSLHA chapter. She hopes to continue her academic journey by pursuing a master’s degree in speech-language pathology, with the goal of becoming a compassionate and skilled clinician! 🎓

Beyond academics, working at the clinic has allowed Riana and Allie to have become the closest of friends!
