Happy 135th Birthday, Lenoir-Rhyne!

Today we hosted a campus celebration on Shaw Plaza where students, faculty, staff, and community members enjoyed LR cupcakes and two fun activities. Oh, and did I mention that everyone we saw received a fun LR | 135 party hat?

Happy 135 years of LR excellence and Bear pride!

LR alumna Martha Matthews (McGee) '76 and her husband Dan Matthews celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 24, 2026. They met on a blind date at Ocean Drive Beach in 1971. Martha has said that they kept the roads busy between home and LRC during those five years! They married, settled, and raised three sons in Martha's hometown of Concord, NC, where they have lived for 50 years.

During her time at Lenoir-Rhyne, Martha was a member of Kappa Delta sorority, the A Ca****la Choir, SGA, and the Student NC Association of Educators (SNCAE).

The Alumni Association congratulates Martha and Dan on their 50th wedding anniversary and wishes them many more years of blessings. GO BEARS!
