🎙 Exciting Announcement: New Podcast Series! 🎙

Northern Kentucky University's Public History Program and I are proud to unveil a groundbreaking podcast series I co-produced with NKU alumnus Chris Burns. In the series Chris embarks on an in-depth exploration of one of America's most pivotal and complex figures: Ulysses S. Grant.

From Grant's small-town Ohio roots to his rise as a Civil War leader, and from his presidency during Reconstruction to his final days crafting his memoirs, this series offers fresh perspectives on the man who shaped a nation in crisis. Our journey is guided by a roster of distinguished historians:

🔹 Ben Kemp – A living historian who brings Grant’s poignant final year to life.
🔹 Chris Mackowski – Civil War expert revealing Grant’s battlefield brilliance and collaboration with Lincoln.
🔹 Dr. Charles Calhoun – Gilded Age scholar discussing Grant’s transformative presidency.
🔹 Ned Lodwick – Authority on Grant’s boyhood, uncovering formative moments in Georgetown, Ohio.
🔹 Nick Sacco – Curator at the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, shedding light on Grant’s personal struggles in St. Louis.

Each episode dives into themes of leadership, racial perspectives, and resilience, uncovering how Grant's life reflects—and reshaped—the identity of the United States.

This podcast exemplifies how public history can bridge the past and present, offering a dynamic platform for storytelling and civic engagement. It is a testament to NKU’s dedication to fostering a deeper understanding of history through innovative mediums.

🎧 Tune In to rediscover Ulysses S. Grant like never before. Whether you’re a history buff, educator, or lifelong learner, this series offers compelling insights for all.

This 8-week PAID summer internship is open to two interns and we welcome students in history, public history, folklore, or the humanities broadly to apply. Though we do not wish to limit applicants to those fields and encourage anyone with an interest in history and digital projects to apply.
