From an insightful and extremely interesting keynote session to interactive sessions and engaging conversations with cybersecurity professionals across industries, the 19th Annual Cybersecurity Symposium brought together a community focused on tackling today’s most pressing security challenges.

With six total speaker tracks and 25 expert-led sessions to attend and a keynote from Brian Cobb, chief innovation officer at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG), the 19th annual cybersecurity symposium brings a full day of cybersecurity insights and real-world perspectives to NKU.

Ember Film Festival came to life last Thursday with a Ren Faire theme and much to be celebrated! 🗡️🛡️🥳

From transforming the Digitorium and lobby with handmade décor to promoting the festival, managing submissions/judging and putting on the show, the Film Festivals class built the entire experience around showcasing the work of their fellow students.

Students received 27 submissions and built those into a nearly two hour festival program. With work ranging from DFX demo reels to short-form narrative films, EMBer offered a great look at the creativity and talent coming out of Griffin Hall.

A few highlights include:
• Judge’s Choice: Athoth a Go!! Go!! by Oskar Benzing, an EMB 140 student who also won the “Squire” Award for Best Newcomer
• Audience Choice: The Grass is Always Greener by Norse Film Society

📸 For the first time, the Griffin Hall Gallery (located on the fourth floor) will transform into a student-centered gallery. Undergraduate and graduate students taking any class housed in Griffin Hall will have the opportunity to submit up to three photos to be considered for the gallery along with an artist statement and bio. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, Oct. 21 with an opportunity for cash prizes! Visit the link below to upload your materials to the OneDrive.

Submission guidelines:
• Submit up to three (3) high-resolution JPEG photos
• Give each photo a title and use that as the file name
• Include a separate artist statement (50-100 words) describing your work, inspiration, or creative process AND
• A bio telling us your name, major, where you are from, and what your career aspirations are after you leave NKU
• Finally, create a folder in the linked OneDrive and title it “LastName_FirstName”

What can you build in a weekend? For 44 students at this past weekend’s Hackathon, the answer was: quite a lot.

Across 14 teams, students spent the weekend developing ideas, collaborating, solving problems and turning concepts into innovative, working projects.

Congratulations to this year’s winners:

🥇 Engagement.live: Philip Bierley, Zakaria Gouiss, Aaron Milner and Sean Cancel — A web/mobile app designed to make navigating campus easier, including finding parking and events through an interactive map with advanced navigation features.

🥈 Rocky’s Campus Quest: Denver Hogan, Ethan Schoultheis and Kylie Richardson — A physical/digital experience designed to bring students and communities together through activities and challenges.

🥉MatchU: Nathan Feiler and Oliver Michael Victor — A system designed to help students discover and connect with internships, research opportunities and campus activities.
