The 2026 Ron Rizzuto Innovation Challenge connects Colorado students with industry mentors to solve a real-world media and technology challenge and compete for $6,000.

🚨 Colorado students: this is your chance to take on a real-world technology challenge—and put your ideas in front of industry leaders.

The 2026 Ron Rizzuto Innovation Challenge is bringing together emerging talent from across Colorado to tackle one of the biggest questions facing technology today:

How can we restore trust in an increasingly connected world?

Build a team. Develop an original solution. Work alongside an industry mentor. Present your ideas to media + technology leaders.

🏆 $6,000 in cash prizes
🤝 Mentorship from industry professionals
💡 Real-world innovation experience
🌐 Connections that can extend far beyond the competition

Teams of 3–5 students are encouraged. Teams must be graduate-student-led, and students from all disciplines are welcome.

Meet MacKenzie Roebuck-Walsh, a former Media Tech Collective Innovation Challenge winner whose experience became the launchpad for her consulting career.

While completing her MBA, MacKenzie entered the Innovation Challenge with a goal of breaking into consulting. Winning the competition led to a paid internship and ultimately a full-time consulting role.

But the impact went beyond career opportunities.

The experience helped her strengthen critical skills in problem-solving, teamwork, presentation development, and executive communication while building valuable professional relationships.

As MacKenzie reflects:

After months of planning, preparation, and anticipation, the "MTC Annual Golf Tournament" is finally here and we couldn’t be more excited!

This event is about so much more than a great day of golf. It’s about bringing our media, telecom and tech communities together to connect, have fun, and make a meaningful difference.
