First Bale Award

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Hill County presented its annual First Bale Award to Nors Farms for 2026. The award recognizes a cotton producer having the first ginned bale of cotton grown in Hill County. This year, the honor went to David and Brandon Nors, owners of Nors Farms in Abbott. The cotton was ginned at Farmers Gin & Grain in Abbott on August 27th. The first bale weighed in at 538 pounds of lint and produced 540 pounds of seed.

Producers receiving the award get to designate a $1,000 donation to a charity, service organization or non-profit of their choice. Nors Farms chose to designate the donation to Abbott Volunteer Fire Department. Funds are provided through a partnership between Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service – Hill County and Hill County Farm Bureau Board of Directors.
