Faces http://www.hope.edu/academic/hhmi/faces.html Transitioning from high school to college is an exciting time filled with new beginnings and opportunities.

We know many students have concerns during this time about being away from family and friends and adjusting to a new environment. The best way to make a smooth transition is to find positive connections and form sound relationships. The FACES Mentoring Program at Hope College is the perfect way to begin making those connections as well as get the support and guidance that you need. We're extremely

grateful for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute who supports Undergraduate Science Education at Hope College. Our Peer Mentoring Program eases the transition to the academic and social environment of Hope College and the Natural and Applied Sciences Division for underrepresented freshmen students by providing one-to-one mentoring relationships and activities.

For her PhD, she investigated shoulder function in individuals with cervical spinal cord injury and the feasibility of restoring lost function using functional electrical stimulation, based on musculoskeletal modeling simulations. Her research interests include the development of novel robotic devices for upper extremity rehabilitation post-stroke, shoulder biomechanics in populations with neuromuscular and musculoskeletal impairments, and understanding the neural mechanisms underlying motor impairments following brain injury. Her research continues in the investigation of the role of musculoskeletal biomechanics on the upper extremity movement deficits following stroke based on experimental methods and computer modeling. She is also interested in the design of robotic devices for therapeutic applications in stroke.
