ONE BIG WEEKEND FAMILY ACTIVITY

10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Big/Little Read Lakeshore Clue Hunt | Van Wylen Library
Join us at the library for the Dreamers Clue Hunt. This fun family activity takes you through Van Wylen Library in search of clues related to the Little Read Lakeshore book Dreamers, by Yuyi Morales. Turn in your completed form and you will be entered into a drawing to win a Hope/Big/Little Read Lakeshore swag bag. Drawing will take place at 3:45 and winners will be notified by phone.

There are picture clues for little ones as well as worded clues for older kids!

It's BAAAACK!!!!

After dark, strange stirrings have been reported in the library. A ghostly mystery unfolds. Who dares to enter? Will all escape? On Friday, November 1, adventurous souls are invited to test their wits in a thrilling new escape room mystery. This spooky after-hours event starts at 6:30pm, and the last entry is at 9pm. Resolute puzzlers will find that the mystery takes about 30 minutes to solve. Come to the main entrance of Van Wylen Library with flashlights and your most trusted companions. The line forms early, so plan ahead!

Hello friends of the library! As many of you know, Hope's Archives and Special Collections’ Department moved to the lower level of the Van Wylen Library last year. Now we have “moved into” the Library’s social media as well!

Keep an eye on this page for more posts about our historic collections and upcoming events, like the one below!

Hello friends of Hope College Archives and Special Collections! To reach our dedicated community better, we will now be posting solely through the Hope College Library page.

Don't worry, this decision comes with a plan for more consistent sharing of the Archives’ historic collections and exciting events! We urge you to subscribe to Hope College library's Facebook, Instagram and X profiles () and share them with your friends.

The picture below was captured on April 21st, 1988, during the dedication of Van Wylen Library. It includes (left to right) David Jenson (Hope’s Director of Libraries from 1984-2008), John Jacobson (Hope President from 1987–1999), and Gordon J. (Hope President from 1972–1987) and Dr. Margaret D. Van Wylen, for whom the building was named. In 2023, the Archives and Special Collections Department moved to the lower level of the building where we serve you today.

We're full-swing into our summer renovations! The Digital Media Lab is restructuring (goodbye, enormous desk!!) and the 2nd and 3rd floors are getting new carpet and paint (goodbye, mauve!!!). Thanks for your patience as we make these changes to better serve YOU!

Thanks also to the Hope College Physical Plant for all their hard work moving tons of furniture and shelving - we couldn't do it without you!

Did you know we have a Cricut machine in the DML? They made a video showing how to design your own t-shirt! You supply the clothing. We have limited vinyl available for purchase or you can bring your own.

Yesterday, we had our annual, routine bedbug inspection. Poet and her handler Sarah with K9 Scent Detection did a training demo with a planted scent. Poet sits when she detects the scent. Good girl, Poet! 🐾
