Our trail cameras saw a lot of action this summer!

We often get asked when we see the same species on the cameras if it is the same animal each time. While we don't know for certain, we monitor the frequency of the animals passing through the same location, at the same time and can hypothesize that it may be the same animal. We look forward to sharing these photos with K-12 field trip students this school year!

Join us two weeks from today, September 15th, for a Trail Survey Program Workshop with Finger Lakes PRISM in collaboration with RMSC Cu***ng Nature Center Cu***ng Nature Center!

We will explore explore and survey our trails from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. to identify terrestrial invasive species & how you can survey by yourself. Please register at the link in our bio.

Muller Field Station Wander and Wonder Walks are back! Our first community walk of the Fall 2026 season is this Friday 9/4 starting at 9am from the fire pit in front of the Main Lodge. We walk the same one mile loop each week, observing and building community.

Our special guest to kick-off the Fall 2026 season is the one and only amazing Annie Almekinder, Greater Southern Tier BOCES Instructional Support Educator. Annie has returned from teaching abroad for more than 18 years to teach in NY. She reaches more than 700 students in the GST school districts, bringing hands on STEM activities to all ages. Annie inspires kindergarteners through HS students to consider, explore, and learning more about the world around them. Just like we love to do on our walks!

Reminder: These community nature walks are free and open to the public, no registration necessary. Our trails often have standing water. Waterproof footwear is recommended. Participants should also check for ticks.

As school starts soon, there is no better time than now to reflect on our summer. A key highlight of our summer was our Project Hi-FLOW program with 14 curious & adventurous local high school students!

Project Hi-FLOW (Highschoolers Investigating Finger Lakes & Ontario Watersheds) aimed to introduce students interested in the environment to the conservation field through hands-on experiences with various professional partners within the field.

Students explored state park sites, went electrofishing, pulled aquatic and terrestrial invasive species (hard work!), sampled macroinvertebrates, and explored the cultural aspects of the environment all while learning about the academic and professional backgrounds of the professionals they met.

Thank you to our first cohort of students and to our gracious partners & site visits from NY State Parks & Historic Sites , NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, RMSC Cu***ng Nature Center, Finger Lakes PRISM, Ganondagan State Historic Site, One With All, and Finger Lakes Land Trust.

As summer starts to slow down, birds begin to make their journeys south to their wintering grounds. Join us this Saturday, August 22nd, from 7:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. for an early morning birding excursion throughout our property!

As the saying goes, the early bird gets the worm. We will be out early, just like this raptor, to see what birds are passing through or fueling up on seeds, berries, and insects for their journey. The walk will be 1-2 miles on even terrain. Binoculars will be provided but participants are encouraged to bring their own if they would like! A celebration was held today at Muller Field Station to mark the completion of Project Hi-FLOW (Highschoolers Investigating Finger Lakes Watersheds).

Offered for the first time this summer, Project Hi-FLOW gave students from schools throughout the region hands-on experience in forests and wetlands across major watersheds in Ontario County.

Some activities included electrofishing, exploring small waterfalls and gullies, and removing aquatic and terrestrial invasive species. 🎣🌳

Did you know red milkweed beetles utilize their host plant, milkweed, to protect themselves from predators? Milkweed contains toxins, specifically cardenolides, that when eaten, the animal becomes toxic themselves. The bright red of the red milkweed beetle alerts predators to stay away from them.
