We had a great time with friends of the College at last night’s UH football game!

It was a chance to catch up with a few of the many supporters who help us do more for our students and community.

Although our football team didn’t get the win on the field, Team CoE continues to rack up wins thanks to teammates like these who go above and beyond for Hawai‘i’s engineering team:

Our last day of our Pacific Northwest swing started with a chance to catch up with Robert Higgins. It was great to see him that morning since he was going to miss our Pau Hana later that evening — and he had a pretty good excuse: it was his 49th wedding anniversary! Dinner and a play were on the agenda. Congratulations, Bob!

Since we were already in the U District, we also had the opportunity to meet with Ashlee Esteban-Akimoto, Amy Sallin, and Ryan Buckmaster from CoMotion at University of Washington and the Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship. We learned more about how they approach technology transfer, support faculty and students launching startups, and work with entrepreneurs from outside the university as well. Lots of good ideas and lessons for us as we continue building support for innovation and entrepreneurship at UH.

We wrapped up the trip with our annual Engineering Alumni Pau Hana at Ono Authentic Hawaiian Poke in Edmonds, Washington. It was a great evening talking story and reconnecting with more than 30 alumni.

A really nice way to close out the trip — good conversations, good food, and plenty to bring home with us. 🤙

Day 4 was all about catching up with old friends.

We started the day with Dave and Anita Spangler, who somehow seem even busier in retirement. So jealous!

Then we caught up with Ray Kanemori and heard what he’s been up to over the past year. Always great to reconnect.

We wrapped up the day in Everett, talking story with Casey Kamikawa at Boeing and touring the hangars to see the 777 and 737 assembly lines. AMAZING!

We’re especially happy for Casey in his new role leading the structures group for the 777 wings. So proud of him, and great to know they’re in good hands.

And on the drive back to the hotel, Mt. Rainier gave us one last reminder of just how beautiful the Pacific Northwest is. An amazing sight and a great way to end the day.
