Navy gliders deployed along with PacIOOS gliders off the coast of Hawai'i Island captured data during the recent Hawai'i hurricanes, which will be used to enhance hurricane models and forecasts.

Gliders deployed by PacIOOS partners at the University of Guam are also transmitting vital ocean data used in typhoon forecasts.

Who really benefits from sustainable seafood?

Join us for our upcoming Sustainable Fisheries Seminar featuring Dr. Shreya Yadav, Interdisciplinary Marine Scientist with Conservation International’s Center for Oceans!

While market-based voluntary sustainability standards (VSS)—like certifications, improvement projects, and ratings—have grown rapidly over the past decade, their main focus has been on environmental outcomes. But what about social equity? Who bears the costs, and who reaps the benefits?

In this talk, Dr. Yadav will explore how initiatives like the Marine Stewardship Council, Fair Trade, and Fishery Improvement Projects affect equity in seafood production, drawing from case studies of small-scale fisheries in India, the Maldives, and Indonesia. She will also discuss how this research connects to Conservation International’s Ocean Stewards program to support ocean-reliant communities and transform ocean governance.
