Fall 2026 HPU School of Social Work CIRCELS Completed!๐ŸŒบ

The Fall 2026 HPU School of Social Work (SWRK) - Culturally Immersive Reciprocal Community Engaged Learning and Service (CIRCELS) has officially wrapped up!๐Ÿค™๐Ÿฝ

Day 1 - BSW and MSW students visited the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum. Aunty Hiสปilani Shibata opened our day with a Hawaiian language lesson and ti leaf lei and hoสปokupu making workshop.๐Ÿ’ After learning essential protocols led by Kumu Tammy Martin, we were joined by Hลkลซleสปa Crew Austin Kino from the Polynesian Voyaging Societyโ›ต๏ธ, who shared about Hลkลซleสปa, wayfinding, and his personal huakaสปi and moสปolelo. Students then enjoyed a guided tour of the museum.

Day 2 - Students, faculty and our hosts at the สปฤ€ina Wellness Academy (AWA) exchanged opening protocols. The morning was filled with hana (work) guided by Kumu Kalฤ Kawaสปa.๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ’ฆ In the afternoon, Aunty Mahealani Kawaสปa led a hands-on activity where students decorated โ€œWho I Amโ€ bags, exploring who their โ€œvillageโ€ is and what they carry within their bag.๐Ÿ’–

We concluded Fall 2026 CIRCELS with an intensive reflection session. Students shared about their bags, their villages, and how their experiences connect to core social work concepts: engagement, assessment, intervention, and evaluation. We shared some tears and good laughs ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿฅฐโ€”we are building pilina, a village, and each one of us is developing our own unique hลkลซ paสปa, our guiding star.โญ๏ธ

Dr. Reevey is a licensed clinical social worker in seven states and a behavioral health leader and educator. She holds a Doctorate and Master of Social Work from the University of Louisville, a Master's in Spirituality from Bellarmine University, and a Bachelor's degree from Berea College. She serves as a clinical supervisor in three of the seven states. As Founder and Clinical Director of a private practice behavioral health organization, she brings real-world practice directly into the classroom, connecting theory to what's happening in the field. Outside work, she enjoys traveling, gluten-free cuisine, bingo, and binge-watching TV series.

Weโ€™re excited to have Dr. Reevey join the HPU School of Social Work and look forward to the knowledge, experience, and passion she will share with our students! ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒบ
