We are proud to celebrate our Fourth Annual Oral Health Integration between the Kapiʻolani CC Dental Assisting and Nursing Programs! 🤝🏽❤️

Our Dental Assisting students put their knowledge and skills into action as oral health educators, working alongside our future nurses and primary care providers to share the importance of oral health, prevention, patient education, and the connection between oral and overall health. 🦷🪥🩺

This integration is about more than sharing knowledge—it is about changing how we think about healthcare. Medical and dental care need to work as one for our patients and our community. The mouth is part of the body, and oral health cannot be separated from overall health. By educating and training future healthcare professionals together, we strengthen communication, collaboration, prevention, and our ability to care for the whole patient. ❤️

Mahalo nui loa to Leilehua High School for inviting the Kapiʻolani CC Dental Assisting Program to participate in their College & Career Night! It was especially meaningful for me to return to my alma mater and share the dental profession with the next generation. 💚💛

We had the opportunity to introduce students and families to careers in Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, and Dentistry, while sharing the different local college and educational pathways available to pursue these professions. 🦷🎓

We are proud to continue our annual collaboration between the Kapiʻolani CC Medical Assisting and Dental Assisting Programs, connecting vital signs, oral health, and overall health to strengthen patient care. ❤️

Mahalo nui loa to Program Director and Clinical Education Coordinator Professor Jen and Professor Lillie for providing our Dental Assisting students with hands-on education in vital signs and patient assessment! 🩺🙌🏽

🦷📸 Building Skills One Radiograph at a Time! 📸🦷

Our Kapiʻolani CC Dental Assisting students continue to expand their skills and knowledge in dental radiography as they prepare for their future clinical externship experiences! 🌺✨

Earlier in the semester, students learned and practiced the paralleling technique, developing a strong foundation in proper receptor placement, horizontal and vertical angulation, and accurate image acquisition. Now, they are adding the bisecting technique to their growing radiography skill set! 📚☢️

Learning both techniques gives our students the knowledge and versatility to adapt to different patients and clinical situations they may encounter in the dental office. Every practice session helps strengthen their accuracy, confidence, critical thinking, and patient-care skills as they move closer to externship! 💪🦷

Education is key to becoming a better dental assistant in the dental office. The more our students understand the “why” behind each technique, the better prepared they are to provide safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. 🎓🦷✨

🦷✨ Skills in Action at Kapiʻolani CC Dental Assisting! ✨🦷

Our Dental Assisting students are learning more and more each week as they prepare for midterms! 📚💪

This week, students are strengthening their restorative dentistry skills by practicing how to properly assemble a Tofflemire matrix system for Class II restorations and place Mylar strips for Class III and Class IV restorations. 🦷🔧

They are also building their clinical assisting skills by learning how to prepare and assemble the local anesthesia armamentarium 💉, properly apply topical anesthetic, and identify and prepare general chairside tray set-ups for a variety of dental procedures. 🧤🪥🦷

From understanding instruments and materials to preparing the operatory for patient care, every hands-on experience helps our students build confidence, organization, efficiency, and the clinical skills needed to become successful dental assistants. 🌺👏

Keep learning, keep practicing, and keep growing! 💪🦷✨

🦷✨ Let’s learn the landmarks of the face with our KapCC Dental Assisting Students!

Learning facial anatomy is an essential part of dental assisting, and our students are finding innovative, creative, and hands-on ways to make these important concepts easier to understand and remember. 🎨🧠

By identifying and reviewing the different landmarks of the face, students are strengthening their knowledge of anatomy while connecting what they learn in the classroom to the skills they will use in the clinical setting. Activities like this encourage teamwork, critical thinking, creativity, and active learning — all while making the learning experience more engaging and memorable. 👏📚

We are proud to see our students take ownership of their education and develop unique ways to study, collaborate, and build a strong foundation for their future careers in dental assisting. 🦷💙

Learning becomes even more meaningful when students can be creative, work together, and have fun along the way! ✨
