The HPU Program hybrid program was built to ensure that the mission to serve Hawai’i means that we serve all islands and allow students to stay on their home island with low residency requirements during the didactic year in Honolulu. Once a semester students come to campus for two week lab immersions. Immersions are a time when knowledge becomes muscle memory, clinical technical skills are fine tuned and classmates bond.

To the incredible Class of 2027, your focus, resilience, hard work, and support for one another during our last immersion did not go unnoticed. You showed up ready to work and we are so proud of you and all you accomplished!

To the faculty and staff, mahalo piha for pouring your time, expertise and energy into making the lab immersions meaningful and impactful! None of this happens without you!

Proud feels way too small a word for how I feel about this magnificent program, students, and the faculty/staff team! It is truly living the dream to bring this program to serve our beautiful and unique community ‘ohana.

Reflecting on our volunteer work with HUGS Hawaii ( HUGS ) yesterday. Helping care for the memorial garden was a way of honoring the children whose lives were taken too soon. This experience was a meaningful reminder of the families behind every diagnosis and the lives of those we serve. It was a chance to step outside the classroom, connect with our community, and remember that being a future healthcare provider is just as much about compassion and presence as it is about medicine. We’re extremely thankful for the opportunity to serve and to carry that perspective forward as we continue working to become the providers our communities deserve.

Brinley brings experience as both a phlebotomist and medical assistant in endocrinology and dermatology.

Known for her intelligence and passionate outlook, she balances PA school while raising her family and embraces every opportunity to learn and grow.

With interests in dermatology and women’s health, she is excited to expand her clinical knowledge through rotations and experiences with diverse patient populations.

Happy Throwback Thursday!

Back in February, the HPU PA Class of 2027 spent part of their very first immersion volunteering at Kākoʻo Ōiwi, connecting with the culture and community that helps shape the future of Hawaiʻi.

At the HPU PA Program, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Through service and community engagement, our students and faculty strive to embody the program’s core values of aloha, pono, kuleana, mālama, and lōkahi in all that we do.

Experiences like these remind us that caring for our communities begins with understanding, connection, and working together.

For our next student introduction post, we have our ray of sweet ray of sunshine Kylee Takanishi ☀️

Kylee is easily known as very optimistic, gentle, and kind. She has previous patient care experience in a multitude of clinical settings and has even gone overseas for a medical mission!

She’s looking forward to the opportunity to travel off island during clinical rotations because of the knowledge she’ll gain working with such diverse populations and the chance to explore new places ✈️🌎
