How lucky are we? ❤️🌅

To call a place this beautiful home. Mornings like this are a pretty incredible reminder of just how special the Keweenaw is.

No filter needed. Just another amazing sunrise in the place we get to live. ❤️🧡

🏆 Congratulations to Dr. Emin Kutay on award-winning research! 🖤💛

A Michigan Department of Transportation research project led by Kutay, chair of Michigan Tech’s Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geospatial Engineering, received a Best Research Award.

Kutay served as principal investigator for “Evaluation of MDOT’s Methodologies for Both Quantifying Pavement Distress and Modeling Pavement Performance for Life Cycle Cost and Remaining Service Life Estimation Purposes.”

The project evaluated MDOT’s methods for assessing pavement distress and modeling pavement performance to support life cycle cost and remaining service life estimates.

Congratulations to Dr. Kutay and the research team!

🦺 Learning geotechnical engineering in the field!

Students in Dr. Mo Sadeghi’s Soil Mechanics class had an opportunity to see geotechnical engineering in action with a drilling and Standard Pe*******on Test (SPT) demonstration on the Michigan Tech campus.

A special thank you to SME USA and Cameron Place, PE, for helping make this hands-on educational experience possible and for their continued support of Michigan Tech students.
Experiences like these give our students the opportunity to connect what they learn in the classroom with real-world geotechnical engineering practices.

🎉 New Research Funding!

Congratulations to Dr. Sandeep Chitta on receiving a $110,000 Doctoral New Investigator (DNI) grant from the American Chemical Society's Petroleum Research Fund! 👏

🔬 Project: Experimental Investigation of Fluid-Mediated Proppant–Shale Contact Mechanics

Over the next 24 months, this research will explore how fracturing fluids influence grain-scale mechanical behavior under high stress, advancing our understanding of fluid–rock interactions in subsurface energy systems.

The project will also provide valuable hands-on training opportunities for students in experimental geomechanics.

Congratulations, Sandeep! 🖤💛
