🩺 FREE Vascular Carotid Scans – Volunteers Needed!

Our Diagnostic Cardiovascular Sonography students are seeking volunteer participants to receive a FREE vascular carotid scan as part of their hands-on training.

These are our final vascular volunteer lab dates for the summer semester. Once these appointments are filled, volunteer scheduling will pause until the fall semester begins.

✨ Lab Upgrade! ✨

Our sonography lab just got even better with new overhead TV displays installed above each ultrasound machine, enhancing visualization, instruction, and hands-on learning for our students.

We’re looking for volunteers to help our students in the Diagnostic Cardiovascular Sonography program at Alvin Community College - Diagnostic Cardiovascular Sonography Program

This will be a non-invasive vascular ultrasound of the legs, performed by students under instructor supervision.

🗓 Available dates:
April 8th
April 22nd
April 29th

📍 Alvin College – S141 DCVS Lab
⏱ Appointments are approximately 90–120 minutes

These are non-diagnostic scans, essential for helping students gain real hands-on experience before entering the field. Sonography plays a key role in evaluating blood vessels and overall vascular health.

DCVS Alvin Community College at the Houston Aortic Symposium 2026 🫀

So what’s a symposium… and why does it matter?
It’s where the best in the field come together to work through real cases, evolving techniques, and the future of patient care-not just what’s in a textbook, but what’s happening right now across cardiovascular medicine.

Our students across vascular, adult echo, and pediatric echo programs attended multidisciplinary sessions covering a wide range of aortic and structural heart topics. From aortic aneurysms and dissections to aortic root and bicuspid valve disease, structural heart pathology, and advanced imaging, students were exposed to both traditional surgical approaches and minimally invasive/endovascular strategies.

They also engaged in case-based discussions, interactive panels, and “get with the guidelines” sessions, gaining insight into how teams across specialties collaborate to make complex, real-time clinical decisions.

This kind of experience connects the “why” behind what they’re learning in lab and lecture to the real-world impact they’ll have as sonographers-across all specialties.

All cohorts represented. One program. Learning beyond the classroom. Future sonographers stepping into multidisciplinary care💪🏼

We’re excited to recognize Vu Dung as the vascular preceptor of the semester! Her impact has been especially meaningful to our student, Brian, who shared:

“Vu made me feel very welcome to the lab and didn’t hesitate to let me scan on the very first day, full exams and all. No preceptor has ever taken the time to focus on my development the way she has. She never makes me feel rushed or like she’s too busy for me. Even when I’m struggling, she patiently guides me through the entire protocol without taking over. Between patients, we review images to reinforce key concepts and pathology. Any student would be lucky to have Vu as their preceptor!”
