I joined Rice Board of Trustees Chairman Rob Ladd, retired J.P. Morgan Private Bank executive Marty Goossen and Rice Assistant Golf Coach James Lee for a round at the recent annual Rice Baseball Golf Tournament. Hosted by the Owl Club and RBI Club at Memorial Park Golf Course, the event raises important support for Rice baseball. It was a great afternoon for a wonderful cause. Go Owls! ⚾️

Rice’s culture has always been one of our greatest strengths, and our people are at the heart of it. As we grow, we want to preserve the qualities that make Rice special while being intentional about how we evolve. Rice LIVED gives us a shared understanding of who we are, what we value and how we can bring those values to life every day.

Rice continues its rise among the world’s leading universities, climbing to No. 101 in the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings — an improvement of 46 places since 2023. I’m especially proud to see Rice recognized for its strength in teaching and research quality. These results reflect the talent and dedication of our faculty, students and staff and the progress we are making through Momentous to expand Rice’s educational, research and global impact.

I enjoyed celebrating the extraordinary support and enthusiasm for Rice Athletics at the annual Evening for Rice’s Honour earlier this week. Thank you to the attendees – especially event chairs Cynthia and Bucky Allshouse – for their your generosity, advocacy and belief in Rice Athletics and our student-athletes. It’s what makes our progress possible.

From Texas to communities across the country, we have seen how quickly catastrophic flooding can turn deadly. This important collaboration between Rice and UT Arlington will help strengthen real-time warning systems—giving people more time to act and helping communities better prepare for increasingly severe weather events.
