College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at UH congratulates University of Houston - Creative Writing Program co-director Kevin Prufer who was awarded The Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellowship at The Library of Congress in Washington the weekend before the start of the 2026 Fall semester. Professor Prufer adds to a resume that includes the 2024 Rilke Prize, a major national award in poetry.

Meet Hailey Reyes ‘27, a World Cultures & Literatures major in UH College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. This summer, she’s interning at Arte Público Press, the largest Latin literature publisher in the US, where she’s been scanning and preserving historical manuscripts as part of the Recovering the U.S. Hispanic Literary Heritage project.

The CLASS course Global Politics and Poetry first sparked her curiosity for Latin literature and led her here. See where that curiosity took her.
