Yesterday, our Colorectal Cancer Prevention team joined KCOH 1230 AM to talk about the importance of colorectal cancer prevention, screening, and knowing your risk. Our message is simple: screening can prevent cancer, and for most people at average risk, it starts at age 45.

We also discussed screening options beyond colonoscopy, knowing your family history, recognizing symptoms, and the importance of making CRC conversations more comfortable in our communities.

We celebrated the end of National Wellness Month by sharing information on regular physical activity, healthy eating, and preventive care services with our School of Public Health faculty, staff, and students! Our partners at New Horizon Health Center in Brownsville were recently featured on KRGV Channel 5 News for their clothing closet initiative!

New Horizon Health Center identified clothing and other essential hygiene items as a major need of their patients through the support of CHPPR's Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program team, which helps clinic partners throughout the state identify and address patient needs.

New Horizon Health Center opened a free clothing and shoe closet about three months ago. It comes after staff surveyed more than 3,000 patients about the challenges they face.
