UH Sigma Chi

UH Sigma Chi UH's premier leadership fraternity since May 5, 1956. The Sigma Chi chapter at the University of Houston boasts a rich tradition dating back to 1947. RUSH 2014.

The Gan Bey Fraternity hereafter known as Gan Bey was one of the pioneer social organizations at the University of Houston in the late 1940's to 1956. Its importance and contribution to the University of Houston and its students cannot be overstated. It was not alone in its contribution but its leadership and resulting legacy were unique. Gan Bey became the Epsilon Xi Chapter of the Sigma Chi Frat

ernity on May 5, 1956. Over the decades to come, the University of Houston Epsilon Xi chapter of Sigma Chi would rack up 25 Peterson Awards which are given out annually by Sigma Chi headquarters to the most outstanding chapters. To date, only MIT has more Petersons than the University of Houston. At the 1990 Homecoming game, Sigma Chi debuted The Blaze, better known as the air-raid siren which fans soon began to associate with victory. The Blaze, along with the Frontiersmen would soon be passed along to the university in hopes of getting more organizations on campus involved. Sigma Chi holds FIGHT NIGHT every fall to raise money for our philanthropy, Huntsman Cancer Foundation. In the spring, the Sigs put on DERBY DAYS and take on the task of continuing the success of their Gan Bey predecessors in FRONTIER FIESTA. Will you be a part of the next great chapter of Sigma Chi at the University of Houston? "Men join fraternities; Leaders of Men join Sigma Chi." - John Wayne (So. California '29)

“Here’s a good guess for their success. They’re not content to stand pat. A lesson for the other fraternities on campus is plainly demonstrated.” -- 1955 Daily Cougar on Gan Bey; still holds true 56 years later.
