HCC Central is pleased to recognize Filecha Lucas, Career Center Manager at HCC Central, as President of the Houston City College Chapter of the American Association of Women in Community Colleges (HAAWCC) for the 2026–2027 term.

With more than 18 years of experience in higher education and student services, Lucas is a higher education leader with expertise in career development, workforce engagement, student success, employer partnerships, and professional development. In her current role at HCC Central, she leads Career Services and Workforce Engagement initiatives, builds partnerships with employers and community organizations, and collaborates across the college to create opportunities that support student and institutional success.

Lucas is passionate about developing people, strengthening leadership pipelines, and creating opportunities for professionals to grow and lead. Her work reflects a commitment to connecting professional development with meaningful pathways for advancement, particularly for women in higher education.

As HAAWCC President, Lucas will lead the chapter in strengthening member engagement, expanding professional development and leadership opportunities, fostering collaboration across Houston City College, and advancing a culture of belonging and leadership for women across the institution.

One of her signature priorities for the 2026–2027 term is the continued development of the HAAWCC Professional Development Journey, a three-track leadership development initiative designed to support members as they progress from Individual Contributor to Manager, Manager to Executive, and Executive Leadership. Developed in collaboration with HCC’s Talent Learning and Development team, the initiative connects members with professional learning opportunities, institutional resources, and digital badging to recognize leadership growth and learning milestones.

HAAWCC is currently welcoming new and renewing members. Membership for the 2026–2027 term is complimentary, making this a great time to join or renew and become part of our growing HAAWCC community. Faculty, staff, and students across Houston City College are invited to participate.

We were honored to host Chef Sarah Tibbetts from L’École Valrhona for an immersive chocolate-filled demonstration with our Houston City College Pastry Arts students and industry partners.

From plant-based pastry and vegan chocolate to comforting classics and inspiring new recipes, we learned the best techniques to bring iconic flavors to our creations.
