UH Cullen College of Engineering Welcome to the official page for the University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering.

The University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering, established in 1941, is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. Almost 4,500 students are enrolled in engineering courses—3,291 undergraduates as well as 1,206 masters and doctoral students in biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, environmental, geosensing systems, industrial, mechanical and petroleum engineering. The college also offers interdisciplinary graduate programs in subsea, aerospace, materials, and computer and systems engineering. Chemical and mechanical engineering have ranked among the top programs nationally.

UH's Mim Rahimi and former Ph.D. student Ahmad Hassan have developed Small Modular Electrochemical Containers (SMECs), a new technology that could make carbon capture more affordable and scalable.

The modular system fits inside standard shipping containers, and researchers estimate about 20 units could capture 98% of CO₂ emissions from a 360-MW power plant supporting AI data centers.

How do we turn yesterday's offshore infrastructure into tomorrow's opportunity?

The UH ROICE Program has earned approximately $750,000 from the Gulf Research Program to establish a workforce academy for the Gulf region. Led by Cullen Ph.D. alumnus Ram Seetharam, ROICE is developing innovative strategies to repurpose inactive offshore assets while preparing the next generation of energy leaders.

Since 2022, ROICE has grown into a vital research and workforce development initiative connecting industry, faculty and students to solve real-world energy challenges.

Kailai Wang Named a 2026 Early-Career Research Fellow by the National Academies’ Gulf Research Program!

One of just eight researchers nationwide selected for the Community Track, Wang will use the two-year, $76,000 fellowship to study how transportation disruptions, infrastructure failures and climate hazards affect access to jobs, healthcare and essential services across Houston communities.
