Last Tuesday, I had the opportunity to visit the 9/11 Memorial in New York City. As I stood at the North and South Pool fountains, one name in particular hit home. Paul W. Ambrose, a Son of Marshall who was aboard American Airlines Flight 77 when it struck the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.

Seeing his name etched in the bronze panel was a powerful reminder that tragedies like 9/11 reach far beyond the places where they occurred.

For those of us connected to Marshall University, it also brought to mind another day our community will never forget the November 14, 1970 Marshall plane crash.

Though separated by 31 years and very different circumstances, both events left lasting scars on families, friends, and entire communities. They also remind us of the resilience, compassion, and strength that emerge in the face of unimaginable loss.

Today, I paused to honor Paul Ambrose, those lost on 9/11 from Flight 77, and all those whose lives were forever changed by that tragic day.

May we continue to remember, reflect, and never forget.

Whenever I travel out of town I wear something Kelly green. Today was no different. While walking in Time Square in NYC a NYPD officer said “you’re from Marshall?” I said yep! Did you go there? He replied “I went to West Virginia and went to Marshall for Physical therapy!” I said awesome, shook his hand and said Go Herd! And took this picture with him!

Our goody bag-filling session for the upcoming golf fundraiser was a great success! We had an excellent turnout and enjoyed spending time together at the Cabell-Huntington Health Department as we prepared for this year’s event.
