The academic year might be over, but we are celebrating the news that Marshall University's School of Journalism & Mass Communications has achieved its first Top 10 finish in the prestigious Hearst Journalism Awards Intercollegiate Broadcast competition, placing 10th nationally in the 2025–26 rankings.

This year’s broadcast ranking marks a significant new milestone for Marshall’s journalism and broadcasting program on the national stage. “Our first-ever Top 10 finish in the national Hearst Intercollegiate Broadcast competition shows that Marshall’s School of Journalism is now going head-to-head with the very best journalism programs in the country — and competing right alongside them," said Dr. Rob Quicke, director of the school.

Congratulations to all the students involved, especially Shane Darling from WMUL, who received a national Third-Place award in the Hearst Journalism Awards Program’s Podcast competition. Marshall University

Today some of our seniors interviewed Senator Joe Manchin as their final podcasting assignment. We will be posting the full interview before graduation. The students asked many questions about Manchin's political career, his views on the current political climate, and what advice he would give our graduating seniors for having a happy and successful life after graduation from Marshall!
