🌟 Oxford Summer Spotlight 🌟

“While at Oxford, I grew academically, found myself, and learned about time. In one of my classes, we talked about how life can feel so empty when you fill your time completely up with things to do. When you slow down, keep time open, and try new things, life feels fuller.

As someone who has a full schedule every day of the week and would do as many things as she could to make her life feel full, I realized this summer that slowing down and trying new things can make my life feel full without burnout or stress. This summer, I was able to move at my own pace, try new things every day, and relax. These are things I often forget to do, or my mind won’t allow me to do.

Now, I feel that I can spend my time more wisely, focusing on new experiences and school with time left open to do whatever comes my way. I have learned that a busy schedule does not always lead to happiness. Friends, learning new things, and adventure can lead to happiness and fulfillment.”

"I hope people realize that Marshall can open doors to incredible opportunities. More importantly, I hope they come away believing in themselves and aren't afraid to pursue opportunities, even if they don't think they're qualified or aren't sure how things will turn out."

“Marshall has become my home and allowed me to find myself, create new friendships, make memories, and have once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Throughout my time here, I have discovered who I want to be as a person, the future I want for myself, how to fail and get back up, and that it is OK to not have everything figured out.”

⚽️ SUMMER SPOTLIGHT ⚽️

Rising sophomore Katie McCutcheon, in the Louise & Lake Polan Class of 2029, is having an incredible summer both on and off the field. Katie, a member of Marshall University Women's Soccer and a computer science major, is playing semi-professional soccer for AFC Ann Arbor (USL W) in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she serves as a goalkeeper.

With five practices each week and 1–2 games — either traveling across Michigan or playing at a local stadium — Katie is gaining valuable experience at the semi-professional level. She is also actively involved in the community, volunteering with local organizations, coaching youth players, and supporting local businesses through team outreach events.

“This experience has not only developed my soccer skills, but also allowed me to connect with the community, experience new things, and grow as a person.”

Beyond the field, Katie is living alongside teammates from around the world, creating a unique cultural exchange while building lasting connections. She has also been exploring the evolving landscape of NIL opportunities through team-led programming and mentorship.

We’re proud to see Katie embracing such a dynamic and meaningful summer experience — way to go! 🌟

🏥 SUMMER SPOTLIGHT 🏥

Rising senior Nicole Asamoah, a member of the Gullickson Family Class of 2027, is spending her summer in Washington, D.C. as a Medical Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit Student Nurse Extern at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

“Since heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, I felt it was important to gain firsthand experience caring for patients with these complex conditions. Working as an SNE has complemented my nursing education by allowing me to apply concepts learned in the classroom to real patient situations while developing practical clinical skills. This experience is preparing me to provide high-quality, evidence-based care as a future nurse.”

In addition to her clinical work, Nicole is also embracing opportunities for personal and professional growth while exploring a new city.

We are proud of Nicole’s commitment to learning, service, and excellence—way to go!
