The Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., was established at Alabama A&M College on March 19, 1949. Terry, Evangeline Spillman, Lilease Hall, Ruth Carter, Fannie P. Thompson and Anne Gardner Eady. On March 19, 1949, Mamye E. Williams, Regional Director, Miami, Florida established the Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter initiating Dorothy Simpson, Frances Huggins, Eunice Moore, P
lacidia Thigpen, Mamie G. Browne and Lena Long. An undergraduate chapter was also established on March 19, 1949 initiating Foster Price, Katherine Higgins, Maureen H. Davis Cathey, Inez Mims Petty, Olavenia Rush, Louise Gordon Wyatt, Margaret Bostic, Helen Conley, Georgia Parker Snodgrass, Sophilene Bonham and Betty Jean Lane. Through the years, the chapter activities have perpetuated continual service to all mankind through a series of both local and international programs geared to meet the needs of the community. These activities have included the sponsorships and contributions of various organizations and individuals resulting in memorable, award winning social events, and educational workshops. Thousands of youth have benefited from the efforts of Epsilon Gamma Omega through scholarships, civic and cultural experiences, the Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) Program, and the IVY AKAdemy. Additional programs are geared to aiding senior citizens, promoting good health, the black families, and businesses. Today, the Epsilon Gamma Omega membership consists of approximately five hundred and fifty outstanding women, with (1) Diamond Member who has over 75 years of membership and (51) Golden Members who possess over 50 years of membership.
