And there’s more: a minor planet has been named in his honor - 21039 Zank 🪐

Congratulations to Dr. Gabe Xu on receiving a new award from NSF! 🎉

In collaboration with Auburn University and Alabama A&M University, this project will build on more than a decade of cold plasma research to explore practical applications in agriculture and food.

FTPP is proud to spotlight new NSF awards supporting innovative plasma research led by FTPP partners Dr. Gabe Xu, Dr. Saikat Thakur, and Dr. Shane Aaron Catledge. 🌌🔬

Dr. Xu and Dr. Thakur’s newly funded research will investigate laser-induced shockwave propagation in dusty plasmas, while Dr. Catledge’s award will support the development of advanced materials using microwave plasma manufacturing techniques. 🚀

Our ISWC students spent the past two weeks in Germany wrapping up the second half of camp by presenting the research projects they collaborated on throughout the program!🚀

This year’s DLR projects included:
🚀 Space Weather Event Forensics: Tracing Solar Disturbances from Eruption to Technological Impact
🚀 Machine Learning in Solar Radio Burst Detection and Classification
🚀 MHD Shocks and Kinetic Waves

We’re incredibly proud of all the students for their hard work, collaboration, and dedication throughout this international research experience. Congratulations on an outstanding four weeks of learning, discovery, and teamwork!!🔥

ISWC Week 3 recap: Germany edition 🇩🇪 This week our students dove into lectures all week, then wrapped it up with a field trip, touring the Wendelstein 7-X fusion device (yes, the stellarator!), exploring the Peenemünde museum, and unwinding at the Seebrücke in Zinnowitz. 🔭🪐

Dr. Sujan Gautam, a former Ph.D. student at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, recently published research exploring how interplanetary shocks transform turbulence as they travel through the solar system. ☀️

Using advanced simulations and spacecraft observations, his newly published study provides valuable insight into how turbulence evolves around interplanetary shocks, improving our understanding of the solar wind, space weather, and the dynamic processes that shape our heliosphere. 🌌🚀
