Put the course number, the week and your student ID number in the subject line when you email a question about an assignment.

"Question about the assignment" has no context — which section, which assignment, which student. An email with the course, the week and your ID number carries context, so whoever reads it can answer in a single reply.

Sam Houston State places 12th among Texas universities in the 2026 U.S. News Best Colleges rankings.

The university also ranked 52nd in the nation for social mobility, which counts how many students on federal Pell Grants enroll and how many of them graduate.

A good deal of that finishing happens at kitchen tables after work. Congratulations to the faculty and staff who built that record, and to the students who did the hard part.

The week before a semester starts, the online team is doing the least visible work of the year.

Courses get their final check. Broken links get found and fixed. Someone opens every quiz to confirm it unlocks on the right date. Advisors clear the last of the schedule changes. A syllabus gets proofread at 7 p.m. because someone spotted a wrong due date.

None of it shows up inside a course. All of it is the reason week one feels calm.

Classes begin Wednesday, Aug. 19. 🐾
