Look at public history students doing cool and impactful internships this summer. If you have questions about what you could do, message or email!

Collin Coble working with artifacts with TVAR and Donnie Mcleod giving a tour at the Signals Museum.
Rachel Nix on her internship: “Most people visit a historic site expecting to learn about the famous people who shaped history. This summer, during my internship at Alabama Constitution Hall Park in Huntsville, Iearned that some of the most important stories belong to the people who were never in the spotlight.”

Lee Phillips: “I interned at the Alabama A & M University Archives, and while I have never considered a career in this field, I now understand the importance of archival work.”

Thank you partners—we couldn’t do this without you. UAH College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences

Dr. Johnson recently visited Detroit for a joint conference of the Association of Holocaust Organizations and the Council of American Jewish Museums. She represented the Alabama Holocaust Commission. In addition to many fabulous panels and conference events, she also enjoyed visiting the Detroit Institute of Arts to see the Diego Rivera murals and other great art, as well as walking through Detroit to see public art murals. Conference attendees also visited the home of Henry and Clara Ford, which is currently closed to the public and undergoing extensive restoration, where attendees discussed how the new house museum will present his antisemitism, and we also took a walk along Detroit’s Riverwalk. Pictured are Dr. Johnson with Lisa Bachman, executive director of the Alabama Holocaust Education Center; Dr. Johnson at the riverwalk, with Canada to the left and downtown Detroit to the right; a photo of the Rivera murals; a photo of the 9-story mural “Girl with a D Earring”; and a photo of Dr. Johnson perusing Henry and Clara Ford’s bookcase.
