Hey ! One of my favorite objects to view through a telescope is M17, the Swan Nebula. Located 5500 light years away in the constellation Sagittarius, it boasts a mass of 800 times that of the Sun!

Hey ! Long time, right? Have I got a treat for you though! So you've heard about black hole, maybe seen some cool animations online of what they may look like. And w we know, seeing one is nearly impossible because...well, its a black hole (not really a hole, but i digress) and light can't escape it. Check this out.

That is a super massive galaxy called M87. At its center is a black hole, famously imaged by the planet sized New Horizons Telescope in radio. In most computer simulations, a black hole is shown to have 2 jets of material shooting outward. That material never quite made it on to the black hole, so some gets spat back out.

If you zoom in, you can see the 5000 light years long jet sticking out at roughly the 9:00 position.

Fun fact, prior to 1991, only 1 person had ever visually seen it....and yes, we can see it through ours...with some practice.

Hey SHSU!

Sorry for the long delay, but I can now announce that the summer planetarium schedule is now available! Complete show dates are June 25, July 2, July 8, July 16, July 23, and July 30....all shows start at 7:00. The show titles are: Sunstruck, and Out There.
