Sam Houston State University is helping local students get a head start on college and their careers through innovative partnerships with area school districts.

Through 's Center for Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (CITE), the College of Business Administration has expanded its project management certification program to students at Huntsville, Madisonville and Trinity ISDs. The industry-recognized certification provides students with valuable career-ready skills and can earn them college credit if they enroll at SHSU.

The program has already seen impressive results, including a 100% certification exam pass rate among the first group of Huntsville High School students. One participant, Huntsville native and current Bearkat Jose Espinoza, credits the program with helping him discover new academic and professional goals.

By connecting high school students with college-level learning opportunities, industry certifications and career pathways, SHSU continues to strengthen the region's workforce while empowering the next generation of leaders to succeed.

Some stories deserve to be remembered.

A five-year journey to preserve local history has culminated in the publication of "Time Etched in Stone," a new book by Sam Houston State University alumna Elaine Sharp Smith.

Released June 13 at the Samuel Walker Houston Museum and Cultural Center, the book tells the stories behind the 69 faces featured in "Wall of Faces: The Dreamers," a landmark sculpture honoring generations of African American community members in Huntsville.

What began as a museum brochure project evolved into years of research, interviews and community collaboration. Through her work, Smith documented the lives and legacies of those represented in the sculpture, helping preserve an important chapter of Huntsville's history for future generations.

A two-time graduate and longtime advocate for community service, Smith's work reflects a lifelong commitment to honoring others, preserving stories and strengthening her community.

100% pass rate. Continued excellence.

The SHSU-COM Class of 2025 was one of only four medical schools in the nation to achieve a 100% pass rate on the COMLEX-USA Level 3 national board exam, proving once again that this class—and SHSU-COM alumni as a whole—are truly exceptional.

This achievement is yet another example of Bearkat doctors upholding the highest standards of osteopathic medicine and making an impact across Texas and beyond.

Congratulations, Class of 2025, on this incredible accomplishment!
