Its robust academic presence is complemented by a vibrant campus life featuring more than 185 student-run organizations, 11 fraternities and sororities, and 16 NCAA sports. The university’s nearly 500-acre campus, which includes 17 high-tech research centers and labs responsible for $149.8 million in annual research expenditures, serves as the anchor tenant for the second-largest research park in the nation. It also maintains strong partnerships with federal agencies and commercial organizations that include the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, the Missile Defense Agency, the DIA Missile and Space Intelligence Center, and the U.S. UAH is regularly ranked the best return on investment among all schools in Alabama, and has been named by the Brookings Institution as the best public university in the state based on the economic outcomes of its graduates. Stephanie Manasterski is one of three UAH graduate students to earn a prestigious NSF EPSCoR Graduate Fellowship Program (EGFP) award, supporting her doctoral research in mechanical and aerospace engineering.🌌🚀

Working with Dr. Jason Cassibry, Stephanie will use UAH’s “Sparky” 60-kilojoule pulsed power machine to study pulsed magnetic nozzles and high-energy fusion plasma. This is research that could help advance fusion propulsion and make faster deep-space travel possible.

Stephanie’s success showcases the high-impact research opportunities available to top STEM graduate students at UAH.

Savaria Parrish is one of three UAH graduate students to earn a prestigious NSF EPSCoR Graduate Fellowship Program (EGFP) award, supporting her doctoral research in astronomy and astrophysics.🌌🔭✨

Working with Dr. Sukanya Chakrabarti, Savaria will study extreme-precision radial velocity observations that could help measure dark matter, characterize exoplanets and reveal more about the internal structure of stars.
