Sam Houston University's College of Health Sciences strives to prepare its students to succeed in their chosen health profession through mastery of the appropriate knowledge and skills, a well-developed sense of professionalism, and a strong commitment to promoting health and providing quality care. Officially established on September 1, 2013, the College of Health Sciences (COHS) was created in response to the rapidly growing need in Texas (and the nation) for more qualified health professionals and surging student interest for degree programs in the health sciences. Departments within the College include:

🧡 Bearkat faculty making an impact beyond the classroom!

The Sam Houston State University College of Health Sciences is proud to spotlight Adannaa Alexander, Clinical Associate Professor and Associate Director of Development, for sharing her work at the Lilly Conference in Traverse City, Michigan!

Her presentation focused on how she explicitly teaches teamwork skills to students—an important part of preparing future health and human sciences professionals to collaborate, communicate, and succeed in real-world settings.

Strong teamwork doesn’t happen by chance. By helping students intentionally develop these skills, faculty prepare Bearkats to work effectively with others and meet the demands of their future professions.

We’re proud of her commitment to teaching, professional development, and preparing students for success!

Our College of Health Sciences faculty, staff and student volunteers joined SHSU President White at Saturday@Sam to connect with prospective students and their families! From sharing information about our programs to answering questions about career pathways in health and human sciences, our team enjoyed helping future Bearkats explore the possibilities at SHSU.

Student success goes beyond the classroom. 🧡

Dr. Kathleen Gilbert, director of the SHSU Food Pantry and Tripods Career Closet, recently presented at the Texas Conference on Student Success, highlighting how these programs help Bearkats access essential resources and overcome barriers to success.

Her poster, “Strengthening Students: Food Pantry & Career Closet Support,” showcased the growth and impact of these programs and, most importantly, the students they serve.

From food and hygiene essentials to professional clothing and school supplies, these resources help students focus on reaching their goals.

We’re proud of Dr. Gilbert and the work happening at SHSU to support student success beyond the classroom!
