We’re excited to introduce Christopher Hanson as the new Workforce Development Specialist for our fire program! Residing in Northwest Kansas, Christopher brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for shaping the future of the wildland fire service in Kansas. With extensive leadership experience—from handcrew supervisor to division supervisor and incident commander—and a history of developing training programs like the Kansas State Fire Suppression Module, Christopher is ready to make an impact.

Hello Everyone, we would like to introduce you all to MFD Firefighter Brady Burr.

Firefighter Burr is a 2nd generation Firefighter from Salina. After graduating from Salina South High School, Brady attended Hutchinson Community College, where he received his Associate's Degree in Fire Science. In 2020 Brady joined the MFD as a Full-time Firefighter. Since joining the MFD FF Burr has taken a special interest in hazardous materials, truck operations, and leadership, attending various trainings and receiving certifications related to each of these interests. Firefighter Burr is currently the leader of our Honor Guard, and is one of the instructors for HCC's Fire Science program. Firefighter Burr's aspirations for leadership, and the passion he has for the Fire Service is admirable. We are happy to serve alongside him, and look forward to seeing him continue developing throughout his Career. Thank you everyone, and have a great day!

Fall 2024 High School Field Day was featured on KWCH.

High school students from across Kansas and at least three other states had the opportunity to experience real-life fire scenarios and rescues. That chance came with the “Fire Science Field Day” at Hutchinson Community College.

Ready to join Sedgwick County Fire District #1? The next Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) will take place on Nov. 15, 2024, at Hutchinson Community College. This test is designed to help fire departments identify candidates who are physically capable of performing essential tasks at fire scenes. Completing the CPAT is a prerequisite for becoming a firefighter with SCFD1.
