We are very appreciative of the opportunity for students in the HCTEA Patient Care Technician course to job shadow industry professionals at Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System. Quality work-based learning experiences provide students meaningful opportunities beyond the classroom.

Thank you to Christina, Cassie, and our entire Labor & Delivery team for the care and support you show each day while investing in our community and inspiring local students through meaningful educational opportunities that help ignite a passion for the future of healthcare.

What a morning at Stringer Fine Art Center! ✍️

On Tuesday, approximately 90 area high school students signed on to the Career & Technical Education Academy β€” opening the door to internships, apprenticeships, dual credits, and career-ready certifications that will set them up for success long after graduation.

Students were welcomed by Hutch Chamber CEO Debra Teufel and heard from an incredible lineup of guest speakers: Hutchinson Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Dawn Johnson, CTEA Director Travis Riebel, Michael Clayman from Bank of the Plains, Shonda Fast from The Bradbury Group, and Amy Elwell, Apprenticeship Coordinator from Hutchinson Community College.

Then, after making it official, students, families, and sponsors gathered in the Gallery Theatre for a networking session β€” exploring summer programs, apprenticeship opportunities, and more.

These students aren't just preparing for a diploma β€” they're building the skills and credentials that our local employers value most. That's a big deal, and it deserves a big congratulations. πŸ‘

To our students, their families, and all the community partners who make this possible: we see you, we're proud of you, and we can't wait to watch you thrive.

Future educators in action! πŸŽπŸ“š

Students from our Early Childhood Education and Teaching & Training pathways recently teamed up to plan and lead morning rotation mini-lessons for Graber Elementary kindergarteners. Before diving into the lesson planning process, students learned from Mrs. Link, instructional coach at Graber Elementary, about creating activities aligned with Kansas learning standards while ensuring they were developmentally appropriate for young learners.

After carefully planning and preparing their lessons, students headed to Graber to bring their ideas to life. The experience made an impact on everyone involved! ❀️

β€œI learned that you have to be patient with kids learning because they are all learning at their own pace, and my way of explaining things may be different from how they understand it.”

β€œI loved how the children were engaged and had many of their own questions and brought their own personalities to the lesson. This inspires me to be a teacher!"

Hands-on experiences like these help our students build confidence, develop real-world teaching skills, and discover the joy of making a difference in the lives of children. Thank you to Mrs. Mahoney, and Mrs. Weeks for allowing us into your classrooms! Graber Elementary School Hutchinson Public Schools Hutchinson High School

Hutchinson FCCLA members had a fantastic time attending the State Leadership Conference in Wichita, KS this week!

The following Hutchinson students competed in the Baking and Pastry STAR Event, where they were tasked with preparing a quick bread, cookie, and choux pastry in under 90 minutes, along with a separate cake decorating component:

πŸ₯ˆ Audrey Foster β€” Silver
πŸ₯‰ Myleigh Muller β€” Bronze
πŸ₯‰ Jaleena Scales β€” Bronze

Three students also participated in the Culinary Arts STAR Event. Competitors were given 60 minutes to prepare pork tenderloin with mustard sauce, Brussels sprout slaw, green beans, and orzo:

πŸ₯ˆ Alayha Glenn β€” Silver
πŸ₯‰ Keegan Kirk β€” Bronze
πŸ₯‰ Callum Whittington β€” Bronze

Awak Diing, Kinley Moses, Lea Ray, and Brooklynn Schmidt competed in Leadership Education Opportunities (LEOs) and each earned a red ribbonβ€”the highest award in these events.

We are incredibly proud of these first-time competitors for dedicating time to prepare and for stepping up to take on new challenges!

Chapter members Lea Ray and Brooklynn Schmidt, along with their advisors, Mrs. Aves and Mrs. Ohnmacht, also assisted in evaluating the β€œFocus on Children” STAR Event. Lynette Kreiger-Zook, a retired USD 308 early childhood educator and current Hutchinson NEA president, joined the evaluation team as the business and industry representative. Thank you, Lynette, for sharing your time, experience, and passion for supporting students!

During downtime, chapter members contributed to the statewide community service project by creating tie blankets. These blankets will be donated to Victory in the Valley, a Wichita-based nonprofit that supports patients undergoing cancer treatment.
