For more than half a century, the song “Rocky Top” has continued to live on in the hearts and minds of people across the state of Tennessee. However, many people aren’t familiar with the man behind the song.

Congratulations Bobby Osborne!

“One thing I greatly value is teaching at the Kentucky School of Bluegrass and Traditional Music. Being with these students with such varied backgrounds, ages, and playing abilities is a treat. They truly appreciate the chance to learn and seeing their eagerness keeps me young,” noted Bobby Osborne, who was honored Tuesday with the National Award by Gov. Andy Beshear. See the full story:

Osborne Brothers Festival Raises $56,000 for Flood Relief

The 29th Annual Osborne Brothers Hometown Festival was held last week in Hyden. Festival organizers were able to coordinate efforts between WYMT, WSGS and their own social media to broadcast the majority of the music live and turn the event into a benefit concert. The four-day event, hosted by Grand Ole Opry star and Leslie County native Bobby Osborne, raised $56,000 for the Foundation For Appalachian Kentucky’s Appalachian Crisis Fund. Between online donations, a raffle and donations from festival goers, the funds raised will go to aid Eastern Kentuckians affected by the historic floods that ravaged the region.

Dean Osborne, Festival Promoter, was thankful the Festival and sponsors had the opportunity to help. “It was amazing how quickly Hyden Citizens Bank, the Leslie County Fiscal Court, HCTC and all of our sponsors came together to redirect our event toward helping the flood victims.” He says that over the course of the weekend, dozens of musicians, volunteers and sponsors came together to make the event possible. “ Our event has always focused on helping the Leslie County Volunteer Fire Departments. These departments, along with many others spread across East Kentucky, were called on to be the first responders in this tragedy and were responsible for a lot of saved lives through rescues. We are once again reminded how much they do for our communities. We are grateful for the outpouring of donations and support to help everyone affected.”

Joel Brashear, the Chairman of the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky, hosted the broadcast. “Our Foundation has done a tremendous job of addressing this crisis and getting aid to those in need in a timely and efficient manner. The grant requests from individuals is in the thousands and we have just opened up applications for businesses, charitable organizations and farms. The FAKY staff have worked long hours to support our friends and neighbors in their time of need.”
