This is a poster display of Helen Maria Chesnutt, daughter of Charles W. Chesnutt. A pioneer, in her own right, she and her sister Ethel were the first black students to enroll in Smith College. Helen studied Latin and Greek and co-authored a Latin Book. The display is located at Wayne State University in Detroit.

Helen was a Latin teacher and was proud that she taught Langston Hughes. She also taught Mother DeScott, an Idlewild resident who is now 100+ years.
