IUP Family and Consumer Sciences Education Student Association IUP Student Association open to all majors in the department of Human Development, Fashion, and Interior Design.

The Family and Consumer Sciences Education Student Association is a pre-professional group that reaches out to the local Indiana community and participates in numerous on-campus activities, including visiting local nursing homes and assisting local Girl Scouts earn badges. Our meetings are held biweekly and are open to all Human Development, Fashion, and Interior Design department students. Bake S

ales and Fundraising help purchase supplies for sewing projects and a portion of the funds raised are donated to various local organizations, such as the Boys and Girls Club. In preparation for the professional world, student members have the opportunity to attend various conferences, assist in planning activities, and can hold an officer position.

Many of the students in our FCSE program truly love fashion and creating their own clothes. Some are pursuing a minor at Fashion Studies and helping other students to improve their skills.

Learning to sew is making a comeback! You may see more sewing classes returning to PA schools. The updated PA Academic Standards for Family and Consumer Sciences include more focus on clothing care and design. It’s exciting! Show your support for sewing in schools by reaching out to your local school or district.

We would love to hear from our students and alumni who love to sew. Share your current favorite sewing project or class memory with us.
