IUP alumni in the Indiana community spent Monday evening at Vocelli Pizza, the iconic location formerly known as Pizza House and Lefty Raymonds. 🍕❤

The evening included the opportunity to meet franchise owner John McNabb and sample a wide range of items from the Vocelli menu. John shared information about the franchise and discussed his vision for continuing a strong relationship with IUP and the Indiana community—offering weekly specials, partnering for university events, and maintaining hours to support the student community.

Guests gathered with old and new friends, shared IUP pride, and enjoyed a touch of nostalgia at the memorable Oakland Avenue location.

In anticipation of the theater department's performance of Cabaret next week, we're taking a look at theater on campus in the 1920s.

College students in the 1920s were eager to join student organizations, and the students of Indiana Normal School were no exception. The 1920s saw an explosion of student organizations such as Home Economics Club, Nature Study Club, Geography Club, and many, many more. This included several literary societies where students held debates, wrote speeches, discussed literature, and performed dramatic presentations for the campus.

Over the years, the literary societies came together to form the Unified Literary Society. This group focused on dramatics and performances. Professor Edna Lee Sprowls aided the group and helped direct two or three major productions each year, including a senior play and several one-act comedies. Theater allowed students to engage in creative, intellectual, and cultural experiences.

The Office of International Education has been hosting International Unity Day for 30 years, celebrating the cultures, traditions, and perspectives that enrich the IUP community. This year's event will take place on Friday, October 23, 2026, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in the HUB and is free and open to the public.

Local alumni and friends are invited to explore cultures from around the globe, enjoy delicious international foods, view traditional attire, and engage in meaningful conversations that foster understanding and connection. Stop by to join in the fun!

Growing Something New at IUP! 🌱

The IUP Biology Department’s Applied Plant Research Lab is growing native trees and shrubs from locally sourced seeds on the green roof (see yellow arrow) of Kopchick Hall! This fall marks the lab’s first native plant giveaway—a great example of student research and sustainability in action.

Want to help this project grow! Support student research by donating to the Allegheny Arboretum at www.alumni.iup.edu/arbo and designating a portion of your gift for the student plant research program.

❤️Some things never change—the bond with IUP is one of them!

During Homecoming 2026, we caught up with Al Vaccaro ‘65, Joe Bellissimo ‘65, and Ron Yuvon ‘65, three former IUP football teammates who have been returning to campus since the 1960s!

Al shares memories of IUP football’s early days, the historic 1964 championship team, and the friendships that have stood the test of time. 🏈
